Brighton & Hove Albion 2 PNE 2

Substitute Simon Makienok was the injury time hero as the Lilywhites came from 2-1 down in injury time to grab a point at the Amex Stadium.

Jordan Hugill had opened the scoring with an early goal, after capitalising on a mistake by the home keeper, but two second half goals from Sam Baldock and Glenn Murray looked to have won it until the Danish forward rose at the back post to head into the bottom right hand corner for his first league goal for the Lilywhites.

Hugill’s opener came ten minutes in, as a result of a mix up at the back by the home side. Skipper, Bruno’s heavy back pass was not controlled by goalkeeper David Stockdale, and North End’s No.25 collected the loose ball, rounded the keeper and powered it into the empty net from 15 yards out.

The home side had plenty of possession without forcing Chris Maxwell into many saves, the best of their chances coming on 16 minutes when Ollie Norwood’s cross from the right found Shane Duffy, but the centre half headed wide from six yards out.

The best chance for a second goal of the game fell to the yellows; in the 24th minutes, when Ben Pearso’s corner from the left was flicked on by Paul Huntington and it flew through a crowd of players out to John Welsh in the right hand corner of the box, but his first time shot rose too much and it flew just over the bar.

The equaliser came nine minutes after the break when Bruno broke down the right hand side and pulled the ball back across the goal for Sam Baldock to slide the ball past Chris Maxwell from ten yards out.

And the game had been turned on its head on 65 minutes when Glenn Murray collected the ball in the box, spun his man and fired low and left-footed into the bottom right hand corner to give the Seagulls the lead.

This goal had come after a great chance for the yellows as Daniel Johnson had picked the pocket of the Brighton midfield and raced through getting into a three-on-one situation, only for Shane Duffy to appear to take it off him via his outstretched right hand, but referee Craig Pawson didn’t see it that way and within a minute the second goal came.

North End were down to ten men for the last five minutes as well, having lost John Welsh through injury, with Gallagher, Pringle and Makienok already on as substitutes.

But with two minutes of four added on left Paul received the ball on the right hand side and delivered a superb ball deep to the back post and the giant Dane Simon Makienok rose at the back post, heading down, past Stockdale into the bottom right hand corner for the equaliser.
