Robinson Delighted For DJ

10 December 2016

Callum Robinson was over the moon for his comrade Daniel Johnson who managed a brace to secure North End three points this evening.

It tops off a fantastic week for Johnson who as well as adding to his goal tally in the 3-2 win over rivals Blackburn, the midfielder also found out he and his partner are expecting a baby, and Robinson couldn't contain his delight for his fellow teammate after the game.

"I'm really happy for him," said Robinson.

"It's a blessing that he's having a little baby and the fact he's managed to score two tonight is great for him."

North End were pegged back by the visitors on two occasions following Johnson's brace; with the scores level at 2-2 going into the final ten minutes of the all-Lancashire affair, it was Robinson himself who took the game by the scruff of the neck with a well-executed finish following great work from Greg Cunningham who provided the assist for the winner.

"It was a good result," continued Robinson who spoke to the club website after the game.

"We probably made it hard for ourselves in the first-half but we've got some good players and we managed to slowly get back into it.

"We knew we had to bring our A game today and I think we did - maybe 25 minutes of the second-half we had to soak up the pressure which happens but I think first-half, apart from the penalty we had full control.

On finding the all important winner which saw North End earn the spoils, Robinson added: "I'm really happy to get another goal for this season; I moved into that central position and I was in the box. Greg did tremendous from
the left to beat his man - I was just thinking I hope he sees me and he did and I tooked it away and I'm just happy that we managed to win the derby.

Robinson's delight for the derby win will be echoed by all North End supporters over the weekend with PNE getting one over on their Lancashire rivals on the 100th time the pair have met, and Robinson told the club website pleasing them is pivotal.

"I'm happy to make the fans happy and that's the main thing," Robinson added. "If they're behind us, they are the 12th man, and I know people say that and it's cliche but it is true and they were behind us today and they can have the bragging rights in work on Monday morning.

"It's all about resting up now preparing for Wednesday. We'll probably have a recovery day Monday for the lads who played and we'll kick on and go to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and try and get the three points.
