When PNE supporter of 70 years Hilda Eccleston partook in her weekly visit to her church coffee shop, little was she to know what was in store for her.
Hilda has become a regular of the Olive Grove Coffee Shop in the Central Methodist Church for many years.
She attends for a cup of tea, a bite to eat and a chat with her friends on a regular basis.
For her most recent visit however, although the coffee and company remained the same, Hilda received an unexpected visit from PNE's Chris Humphrey and Alan Browne after being nominated by the coffee shop manager Sarah Steele for a Whites Christmas surprise - a campaign which aims to spread festive cheer to North End fans this Christmas.
"She's been a lifelong supporter of Preston North End and some of the stories she comes out with are fantastic," said Sarah.
"She is a cheery character so I thought it would be great to nominate her for a Whites Christmas surprise.
"She was diagnosed with Cancer this summer so it was just to cheer her up a bit. She's a cheery soul anyway but it was just for an extra cheer this Christmas as well.
"She's always got a smile on her face and that's what we love about her. She wasn't expecting it one little bit; It was a massive surprise when they came out to surprise her. It was lovely to see them come out and have a few words with her and give her a little present."
Humphrey and Browne took time out of their schedule to present Hilda with a new hat, scarf and gloves after Sarah mentioned to the club she was on the look out for some new winter warmers.
"We've come down today and surprised Hilda who certainly looked surprised anyway," said Humphrey after the event.
"I think she enjoyed it and was really took back by it. She spoke to me and Browny (Alan Browne) and she's loving the new hat and she's going to get rid of her old one. It was just nice to give something to someone who's been coming to support Preston for a very long time."
The PNE winger continued: "She had no idea what was going on and I've got a lot of time for that. Someone who is just genuine who's absolutely took back by it and was loving every minute of it. When you walk in and surprise someone like that and look at the shock on their faces - a happy shock; it's nice.
"It's nice to be able to give something back to the community and give something back to a lady who's been coming to the club for a number of years.
"It's not a great time for her at the minute and around Christmas time if you can cheer up anyone even if it's for five seconds, five minutes, ten minutes it's always great to do that.
"I'm sure she'll leave here happy and that might put a bit of cheer in her life at the minute.
"It's 20 minutes of my time and it's nice to come down and make someone happy and I'm willing to do that. I think everybody should have a bit of cheer in their life."
