Chris Maxwell 'Couldn't Be Happier'

23 September 2016

After marking his first start with three points and a clean sheet, Chris Maxwell was understandably a happy man post-match.

Maxwell made his first league start in a North End shirt tonight after signing in the summer but prior to that, 'Maxi' has had to be patient for his opportunity, deputising Anders Lindegaard for most of the campaign so far.

However, after impressing in the 3-2 victory against Bournemouth in mid-week, PNE boss Simon Grayson opted to pick the Welshman ahead of Lindegaard for the North-West clash in front of the Sky cameras.

And after Jordan Hugill's goal earned the three points with a 1-0 victory, the PNE shot stopper was ecstatic during his interview with PNE PlayerHD tonight.

On the victory, Maxwell said: "That was the aim tonight; first of all, we've got the three points which the lads worked really hard about and we've managed to wrap it up with a clean sheet so I couldn't be happier.

"We were hard to beat tonight and we looked a threat going forward so it was a good night all-round.

"We've all spoke about communicating to each other better individually and we did that tonight, it was a real team effort.

"Momentum is the key now and we need to make sure we keep going and that we're back at it for Birmingham on Tuesday."

Maxwell also took time post-match to thank the North End faithful for their support so far this season.

He continued: "I have to thank the fans, they've given me a great reception in the two cup games and tonight as well; it's been really pleasing from my point of view and warming and I've fitted in straightaway."
