Welshy Excited To Extend Deepdale Stay

18 October 2016

North End midfielder John Welsh was delighted to extend his time at Preston North End by a further year.

Welsh put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension this week to keep the 32-year-old at the club until the summer of 2018.

Speaking of his new deal, Welsh said: "I'm delighted. I've enjoyed every minute since I signed here and to extend it by another year is really exciting.

"From the minute I drove up the M6 and saw the stadium to now, I've enjoyed every minute.

"There's no other place you would want to come in day to day and work. We have a great management, great staff, a great bunch of lads and I enjoy working with everyone at the stadium so there's no better place to play and to work.

Welsh has made well over 150 appearances in a PNE shirt, and is looking forward to adding to that tally.

"As soon as I was offered one it was a yes straight away. I'm very grateful for an extra year and I want to be playing every week.

"With the injury I will probably miss a couple of weeks but I am looking forward to getting back fit and getting back into the team.

His injury means he will be a spectator over the coming weeks, something that will inevitably frustrate the Liverpool-born midfielder but he will be supporting the team from the stands.

"I've never been the best at watching games but I will be giving 100% support to the boys.

"We are on a good run of late so we need to keep that going. It will be a good test for us on Wednesday against Huddersfield, they are coming off the back of a loss so hopefully we can play them at a good time.

"I think it's going to be a tough month for us with the type of games we've got against really good teams but if we keep putting in the performances like we have been and that work rate and togetherness then we have got the players that can hurt teams.

So we are playing some tough games this month but I'm sure other clubs will be looking at us and saying that we are a tough team to play against.

"If we play as well as we know we can, we are sure of winning games."
