Jordan Hugill On An Improved Second-Half Performance

26 November 2016

PNE's Jordan Hugill focused on a much better second-half performance after North End were slow out of the traps this afternoon in the 1-1 draw to Burton Albion.

North End started the game in disappointing fashion with goalkeeper Chris Maxwell introduced to the game as early as the fourth minute with a fine stop to deny Jackson Irvine.

The shot stopper couldn't deny the same man in the 23rd minute with Irvine firing a loose ball in the PNE box home.

Callum Robinson equalised in the dying embers of the first-half to end what had been a disappointing first 45 minutes from a North End perspective.

Although Simon Grayson's charges couldn't find a winner, it was a much improved second-half performance in comparision to the first as Hugill explained to PNEPlayerHD after the game.

"It wasn't falling our way." conceded the PNE front man after the draw.

"It took us a while to get going but we managed to nick the goal before half-time and we upped our game for most of the second-half."

The PNE goal is still up for debate with it being difficult to see who had the final touch into the net between Robinson and Hugill.

On the goal, Hugill added: "I was trying to claim it but everybody was celebrating with him (Robinson) so I'll let him have that one.

"You know you're going to get quality when the ball goes wide and into the box and it was one of them that you have to gamble on it and me and Callum were both there so it could have been anyone's.

"The balls were coming into the box but the bounces just weren't going our way and we couldn't pick anything up off it.

"A point's a point and it keeps us in the top half of the table.

"Team's know that we're doing well at the moment so they know that we are a threat so teams will come here and try and set up to nick a point and get us on the counter attack.

"That's going to happen now and we just have to be aware of it and take it in our stride."
