Kian Smart Rues Second Half Performance Against Tranmere

10 October 2016

Preston North End U18 midfielder Kian Smart has said the team didn’t do enough in the second half during their 2-0 away defeat against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

The first year scholar started in the match and he, as well as his teammates, played well in the first half before Tranmere scored twice after the break to earn the victory.

Speaking about the loss, Smart said: “It just shows that you don’t win a game in 45 minutes.

“We played well in the first half but we really gave it away in the second half and they took the three points from us.

“We started the second half quite slowly. We were happy with the first half performance and I think we got a bit carried away because we didn’t see that through into the second half.”

The midfielder was at the heart of the action for North End, especially in the first half, where he made some good tackles and interceptions and even got into some good positions to shoot.

When asked about his role in the team, he added: “I like to break up play and set the team off playing forward to start an attack quickly, whether it’s on the counter attack or we're creating a chance ourselves from keeping possession.

“I know in the past I have not always been so clinical with my chances but that’s something I want to improve on so I can get more goals. Hopefully the team can do that as well so we can start winning more games.

“We have been working on crosses and getting the ball into the box in training and we had quite a few chances from that in the game.”

Smart concluded: “We have just got to carry on working on that going forward so we can put the chances away.”
