PNE Fans To Conquer ‘Bums On Seats’ Challenge For EFL Community Day Of Action

24 April 2017

A team of fundraisers will take in every view of the Deepdale pitch all in the name of charity tomorrow as part of Preston North End’s Community Day of Action.

The day will see all EFL club’s including Preston North End showcase the excellent, and in many cases life changing work clubs and their Community Trusts do within their local communities, and North End will play host to an epic fundraising challenge at Deepdale Stadium.

The group, made up of 13 individuals will be taking part in a sponsored bums on seats challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support. Here, the team will aim to sit on every one of the 23,404 seats of Deepdale stadium between them.

Fronted by PNE fan Ian Bamber, the team are raising money for the Cancer charity after their work with Ian’s mum, younger sister and friend’s mother who have all been diagnosed with Cancer recently.

On the challenge Ian said: “We got the idea from when Alan Shearer and Robbie Savage did it at Wembley a while back and because we’re all Preston fans, I asked the club if we could do it, they said yes and here we are.

“I’ve been in the gym four or five times a week preparing for it. I live in Telford now and I did a dummy run on their main stand which was about 2,000 seats and that took me just an hour.

“I’m prepared but I don’t think the rest of the group are! It’s not as easy as it looks. Lots of pressure on your knees and the tops of your legs; when I did it at Telford it works your shoulders as well from putting the seats down, but we’ll do it.”

Commenting on the EFL’s Community Day of Action and the fundraising challenge, Head of Community at the Preston North End Community and Education Trust Andy Haythornthwaite added: “The EFL’s Community Day of Action is a great way for us as a Community Trust and a football club to showcase the life changing work we do in our community, from sports participation; education; health and social inclusion.

“However, we cannot achieve these objectives alone and realise the pivotal role our supporters and members of our community play in helping us make a difference; exemplified in the Bums on Seats fundraising challenge.

“The Bums on Seats challenge is a great idea and a brilliant way of raising money for a very worthwhile cause - we look forward to welcoming them to Deepdale and wish them the very best of luck in their quest to sit on every seat.
