Gaffer On Villa Clash

29 September 2016

Manager Simon Grayson is aiming to take three points off former club Aston Villa when they visit Deepdale on Saturday.

The PNE boss enjoyed a successful time at Villa Park as a player and is looking forward to coming up against Roberto Di Matteo's side.

Speaking of his time at the West Midlands club, the gaffer said: "I spent a couple of years in Birmingham with Aston Villa and had a decent time there.

"We were doing well in the leauge, in the Premier League and the UEFA Cup and I enjoyed my time there.

"It's a massive football club with a big fan base and that will be reflected on Saturday when you see the players we will be playing against and the fans they are bringing up.

"But ultimately they are a Championship team now that we want to take three points off."

Villa are one of the favourites to make a swift return to the Premier League, but North End had a good record against the top teams last season and the gaffer is hoping for more of the same this weekend.

"We managed to do it a couple of times last season, we had some real good performances against the big teams who came to Deepdale.

"Against the likes of Sheffield Wednesay, Hull City, we put on good performances and got the victories so we will be looking to do that again.

"We are certainly aware of the threats that they've got and the money that they have spent and the players that they've got, but we've obviously got to make sure that we continue with the run of form and what we have been doing recently.

Villa be backed by a sell-out away end this weekend, but the manager is hoping to give the home fans something to cheer about again and make it three homes wins in a row for North End.

"Hopefully we can give the supporters something to cheer about, we went to Birmingham and had fantastic support, they made loads of noise.

"Then last Friday against Wigan there was a real good home support as well and Bournemouth before that.

"The supporters have been really good for the players, we are all in this together as we keep saying. We can go through some good times and bad times and we will come out a stronger football club for it.

"We are looking forward to it and ultimately we have got to make sure we do everything right on that pitch to give our supporters something to cheer about."
