Manager Simon Grayson felt his side's approach to the game was key to victory this afternoon.
The gaffer made four changes from the last time out with just 48 hours separating the last game against Sheffield Wednesday, compared to their opponents who had an extra days rest from the action.
Despite that, North End adapted well to the changes, and formation to record a 1-0 victory away from home against Burton, and Grayson was full of praise for his side's application.
"We knew before the game that it was going to be a difficult place to come toas they've had some great results at home" said Grayson to PNEPlayerHD after the game.
"We knew they'd make it difficult for us so we had to be at it from the start. We probably got better as the game went on which is probably because of the extra recovery time they've had compared to us but ultimately it was a professional performance.
"We limited them to few opportunities and had some opportunities to kill the game off but considering it's a very difficult place to come to, it was a very professional performance."
The gaffer went on to explain how the formation and changes were imperative with such a busy schedule in place over the Christmas period.
"We set up a way of playing and tried to make it hard for them to play through us," continued Grayson.
"Players came in to the team and players came out of the team and that shows the strength in depth we have got.
"Chris Maxwell will be delighted that he's not had too many things to do because they can be a threat and a handful here. "It's coupled with disappointed as had we won on Saturday we would have had six points from the last two games.
"People may have looked at the team and thought why have we made them changes, but McGeady and Gallagher have had a few weeks out and it was just too high a risk to play them. Baptiste also would have struggled to have played the two games in close proximity so we knew we were going to be a different type of team today.
"Eoin Doyle and Alan Browne came in today and did a great job as did Bailey Wright. People probably questioned that Bailey was leaving the football club but never once have I said that; I'll pick him when I need to do and they've all proved that they're ready to come in to the team. It was a good team performance and a good squad performance."
