Gaffer Aiming To Maintain Home Form

23 February 2017

With three wins from the last four home games, PNE boss Simon Grayson is hoping to maintain his side's form at Deepdale on Saturday.

North End host Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon, and the gaffer is hoping to see his team replicate their recent results and performances which have seen back to back wins on home soil.

Speaking to PNE PlayerHD ahead of the visit of QPR, Grayson said: "There have been some very good performances, both individually and collectively as a team. If you look back on a lot of games over the last six or seven at home, we've done really well.

"We've played well against Arsenal, we should have beaten Sheffield Wednesday, we beat Brighton, and those kinds of teams have come to Deepdale and we've performed very well. We want to keep maintaining the home form and playing with the belief, the confidence and do whatever is required to win a game.

The two home wins came in a busy week for North End which saw the Lilywhites pick up seven points from a possible nine, a return the manager was pleased with going into another tough game.

"To get seven points from three games in a week it vitally important and there were some good performances as well.

The first two games at home were good, the one away from home was a more dogged one, you have to give credit to Wigan for how they stopped us playing but that is something that we have to deal with.

"If we can keep picking up the number of points that we are doing then it's going to be a benefit to us.

With no mid-week game this week, Grayson was pleased to have a free week to work with his squad, and give some players a chance to recover ahead of the weekend.

"We are at this stage of the season now where a little bit of fatigue can set in for players right the way through the country because of the long season that they've had.

"We've picked up a few knocks over the last couple of games but it's just part and parcel of it.

"It's good to have this clear week now ready for a tough game against QPR at the weekend, we then have another Saturday game against Fulham then it's suddenly midweek again against Derby before Reading."

After that visit of Reading, there will be just nine games left in the Championship for the Lilywhites, and the PNE boss is hoping to end the season on a high.

"Games come thick and fast and before you know it we are down to single figures in terms of games and the season is quickly finishing so hopefully we can maintain the progress we are making, be positive and ultimately try and get as many points as possible to still try and get in to the Play-Offs."
