Simon Makienok On A 'Perfect Night'

21 September 2016

PNE striker Simon Makienok spoke to PNE PlayerHD on a landmark night for himself.

The Great Dane not only grabbed his first goal in PNE colours tonight, he managed to add a further two to his tally to bag himself his first senior hat-trick as North End knocked out Premier League opponents Bournemouth this evening in the third round of the EFL Cup.

10 changes were made from the weekend's defeat to Brentford as Simon Grayson opted to rest a number of personnel with Friday's league tie against Wigan in mind.

It was the job of Makienok to lead the line, and the towering forward more than stood up to the challenge scoring all three goals in PNE's 3-2 victory over Bournemouth after extra-time.

It was the perfect hat-trick to mark a 'perfect' night for the summer signing, and Makienok was understandably delighted when he spoke to PNE PlayerHD with the match ball in his hand.

"It was a big game for us," told Makienok to the club's media channel after the final whistle.

"They came with a strong side and we made a lot of changes from the last game.

"When you get a goal, a bit of pressure comes off you. It's my first goal for PNE so of course I was happy with that.

"It's my first professional hat-trick so it's a perfect night for me.

"The gaffer told us to express ourselves and make it difficult for him to pick the next team. It was a brilliant team performance, we stuck together and fought for one another."

On the away support which saw nearly 300 fans venture south for the game, he continued: "It was amazing to see 300 fans there tonight and you could feel their support from the moment we walked out."
