The National Football Museum honoured the great Sir Tom Finney by inducting him on to the Football Walk of Fame during the half-time interval on Saturday.
Sir Tom’s family and PNE were presented with their own Walk of Fame plaque at half-time on the pitch at the weekend.
In 2016 the National Football Museum in Manchester in association with Artist in Residence, Paul Trevillion and You-are-the-ref.com launched the world’s first Football Walk of Fame on the walkway outside the museum – a permanent tribute to the legends of the beautiful game.
Among the legends to be immortalised in bronze plaques was the Preston North End legend who is renowned as the club's greatest ever player.
Since then the museum and Paul Trevillion have been taking the Walk of Fame out across the country and this weekend Sir Tom will be the latest player to be honoured at their club.
National Football Museum Director Kevin Haygarth, speaking of the England and Preston legend said: “I am sure had Sir Tom been here today he would have dedicated this honour to everyone in Preston. Arguably, he was the most talented player of his era and it is our honour to include him amongst the other legends who have made the Football Walk of Fame so far”
John Kay, Chief Executive of Preston North End says it is yet another wonderful honour to be given not just to Sir Tom but to the club too ”Sir Tom was a special player but he was special because he was one of the people. It is as big an honour for Preston to receive this on behalf of Tom. It’s as if we’ve won this special award ourselves”
The plaque will now reside in the Sir Tom Finney Stand in the main reception area.
