Skipper Disappointed In Manner Of Goal

27 August 2016

PNE defender Tom Clarke was frustrated with how North End conceded the only goal of the game this afternoon.

The North End captain spoke to PNEPlayerHD about how the Lilywhites had focused on set plays in preparation to today's game against Ipswich Town.

However, it was a set play delivery that led to the only goal of the game - despite clearing it initially, it fell to Grant Ward who fired Ipswich into the lead within the first 15 minutes, which ultimately saw North End lose the game.

"We're all disappointed; It's not what we wanted," said the PNE centre back.

"We singled out set-plays and second balls before the game which makes it more frustrating for us

"It was a good clearance out but it's come out to the edge of the box and we've no excuses. We worked on it which makes it frustrating.

"Mick's teams are always solid and they stay in games but that's what we're about and we should have done it better. I thought we put pressure on them but we lacked a cutting edge and that final shot to get us a goal."

As with all defenders, Clarke was disappointed in not keeping a clean sheet, but also felt North End didn't do enough in the final third.

"We kept pushing in the second-half and we're just disappointed after having a great result against QPR but we couldn't kick on," he continued.

"Game's are going to be different and you have to adapt. We got a result against Derby which we fully deserved and we played really well.

"As a unit, we need to create more chances in the final third and keep the ball a bit better and not to be in a rush and that's what we need to work on."
