Debutant Tommy Spurr felt North End stuck to their game plan from the first, to the 90th minute this afternoon.
Spurr slotted into the side as a left sided wing back after Simon Grayson made four changes to Tuesday's last-gasp defeat to Derby.
Despite the lack of game time, the 28-year-old put in a resilient performance and Spurr was glad to complete his debut with a win and a clean sheet.
"It's been frustrating for me not playing," said the summer signing; "but I've managed to get the start today and we've got the clean sheet so it's a good weekend all round.
"If you look at the performances this season, we've played well in parts but today we managed to put a 90 minute performance together which is what we were after and it paid off.
"The lads played with a tempo and pressed high and made it difficult for them to play at home.
"We missed a few chances and could have scored more, but all in all it's a positive performance."
