Alan Kelly To Stay At Deepdale

1 May 2013

Republic of Ireland goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly will be extending his return to North End into the 2013/14 season.

Lilywhites manager Simon Grayson has revealed that the former Preston, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper will remain as part of the Deepdale coaching setup for next season following his recent return.

The Prestonian born Kelly, who is the son of the great Alan Kelly Snr, made 142 appearances for North End between 1985 and 1992, as well as representing Ireland 34 times, being part of two World Cup squads during his playing career.

Kelly will spend the summer working with the Ireland goalkeepers in their competitive and friendly matches which include games against England and Spain.

In an exclusive interview with PNE.Com, Grayson also revealed that as well as tying Kelly down, he is looking to expand his backroom team in terms of support workers.

The gaffer said: “Kells is a good friend of mine and he has been good since he has been at the football club and Alan will stay with us next year.

“We have got the coaching staff now in place for next year and hopefully there will be other sections of the staff that we need to improve on and add to as well because we are short in a couple of areas in terms of fitness coach, IT department, chief scout etc. so these are all parts that certainly help me with my development as a manager but also development of the football club.

“They are there, they are specialist positions and we want specialised people to be able to help us affect the first team and football club in general.”
