Alan Browne was ecstatic to claim the joint man of the match award as North End bounced back to winning ways in emphatic style.
The Lilywhites dissected Shrewsbury Town 5-2 to climb to fourth spot in Sky Bet League One thanks to a Paul Gallagher hat-trick and a goal apiece from Lee Holmes and Bailey Wright.
But it was Browne who shared in the plaudits come the full-time whistle, as Gallagher and he shared the man of the match award.
Speaking to PNE.Com, Browne said: “It was a great feeling to share the man of the match award, I’m really happy about it, although I wasn’t expecting it as I was disappointed that my error led to the second goal after giving the ball away cheaply in midfield.
“Gally got a hat-trick and I thought he deserved it.
“Obviously Friday was a difficult game, we were playing away from home and against tough opposition who were going for an automatic promotion spot.
“It was important to bounce back and to score five was a great way to do it.
“I thought we played excellently today.
“I think it is important to be able to score from all over the pitch and not just rely on your strikers all the time.
“It was great for Gally to get a hat-trick from left midfield, Bailey got amongst the goals from centre back.
“It’s great that we have players who can score from any position.
“You don’t get an easy game in this league.
“I thought Shrewsbury did well to bounce back when they were two nil down but then we showed great character in the second half to come out and score another three.”
With only two regular season fixtures to go, North End are still right on the tail of Rotherham United in third place.
And after a fantastic backing over Easter from the PNE faithful, Browne was full of praise for the support and vowed that the players will do everything they can to secure a home second leg in the Play-Offs.
“We want to win our remaining games to finish as high as possible to give us good levels of confidence going into the play-offs,” continued the Irishman.
“The support week in, week out, both home and away has been terrific.
“We have to credit the fans, I think they have been carrying us through the season and hopefully we can give them a good day out at Wembley in May.”
