Browne: "It Was Brilliant"

14 April 2014

Alan Browne was ecstatic to have scored his first goal in professional football during Preston North End's 6-1 thrashing of Carlisle United.

A wonderful run by Lee Holmes, which saw the winger dance past three Carlisle defenders, resulted in the ball falling to Browne, who tapped into an empty net from close range.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes against Graham Kavanagh's side and was delighted to have bagged his first goal on his full debut for the Club.

"It was brilliant, obviously it was a great run by Holmesy to set me up and it just fell perfectly for me," Browne told PNE.Com in an exclusive interview.

"I could not miss to be honest but I was just delighted to get the goal and get off the mark."

He added: "I did not have much time to think to be honest, it just happened so quickly. Thankfully I was there at the right place, at the right time to knock it in."

As soon as the net rippled, Browne glanced towards the linesman, whose flag remained by his side, before leaping into the arms of Leicester loanee Paul Gallagher.

And on reflection, the Republic of Ireland youth international, whose birthday is this week, admits the seconds after the goal were a blur.

"I didn't think much about it, I just ran to the first person I saw so that's the reason behind that," he said.

"It was a blur, usually it's not, I don't really think to much about it but the fact it was my first professional goal, I kind of didn't think about anything except celebrating."

Once again, Browne and fellow youngster Josh Brownhill were given the chance to partner each other in the centre of midfield in the second half.

At one point, when the referee had stopped play and with Preston in command, the pair exchanged a sequence of passes which delighted the Alan Kelly Town End.

"We get on well off the pitch so that helps," Browne said of his friendship with Brownhill.

"I think we have a good understanding between each other and we like to knock it around so thankfully we have got the chance the last few weeks to take our opportunity and hopefully we've impressed."
