Stalwart Shane Cansdell-Sherriff will come against the club where it all began on Saturday as Yorkshire giants Leeds United come to town.
The 29-year-old joined United in 1999 after he was spotted by scouts playing in his native Australia and joined the club during one if their most successful spells in recent times.
At the time, Leeds possessed a squad which included Rio Ferdinand and fellow Aussie Mark Viduka and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
“There were some massive players at Leeds when I was there with the likes of Harry Kewell, Oliver Dacourt and Robbie Keane. It was a fantastic experience to play amongst them and I learned a lot from them,” the former Tranmere skipper told PNE.Com
Back to the present day, Sherriff told the Club’s new look website he is looking forward to playing in a match which involves two clubs steeped in history.
He continued: “It will be a great test for the boys, Leeds United are a big club and it will be a good challenge and I think we are ready for it and everybody is excited about the game.
“You look forward to these types of games, they are a big club steeped in history but we have a great history as well so it should match up to be a good game.
“PNE have played Leeds quite a lot in recent years and I have heard there were some memorable games but we have a new side now just like they do and it will be a good challenge.
“We are thriving to do well and play our own game and let people know we are ready for a challenge.”
Like Preston, Leeds are currently going through a number of changes at Elland Road, with nine new signings so far being added by boss Neil Warnock.
A large crowd is expected at Deepdale for the game, as Sherriff believes it will be the perfect chance to show what North End are all about with the opening fixture against Huddersfield just over a week away.
“Both sides are going to go out to prove a point and try and mix things up. It is an important game, we are still practicing, coming together and learning our game ahead of the new season,” admitted the Lilywhites number six.
“There are certain things we want to work on but it will be a good test for the players on Saturday to see where we are at and where we want to be.
“They are both similar sides, so it will give us an idea what we are going to be coming up against when we play Huddersfield Town in a week or so time.
“It is exciting and I can’t wait to play in front of a big crowd, Leeds will bring a strong following and everyone is looking forward to the game and we want to prove that we are up for the challenge."
