A trip to face the Championship side is PNE’s reward after Simon Grayson’s men overcame Rochdale 2-0 on Tuesday night at Spotland, Andy Little and Neil Kilkenny grabbing the goals.
Preston and Middlesbrough have only previously met once in the League Cup – a fixture which happened to be the last time these two sides faced each other in any competition, ‘Boro running out 3-1 winners at Deepdale in third round action back in 2012/13 after the Lilywhites had knocked out Huddersfield Town – managed by Grayson, and Crystal Palace respectively in the opening two rounds.
