Gaffer And Greg On Carlisle Defeat

28 July 2015

Manager Simon Grayson was disappointed with the result at Brunton Park as his side suffered their first defeat of pre-season.

North End were beaten 4-3 by Carlisle United, with the hosts awarded to penalties on the night, and the PNE boss admits there were areas where his side needed to improve but was happy on the whole with how pre-season is going.

Speaking to PNE PlayerHD at full time, the gaffer said: "Tonight we did ok with the ball but we didn't do well enough without it. We didn't stop the opposition from playing.

"We didn't defend our 18-yard-box, we didn't win our battles and that's been a big thing for us over the last few seasons where we have been successful.

"It gives us one or two reminders, one or two people have to sort of look at themselves and think what they can do better but one or two players have done well as well."

Though disappointed with the result, new signing Greg Cunningham was delighted to make his debut for the Club, and is looking forward to more game time at the weekend.

"It was great to get out there and get playing. I've only had a couple of days training with the lads, so it's good to get some game time and figure out how they play and it lets them get used to me playing.

"It was a good workout for me over 80 minutes, just getting used to the lads and how they play so I'm looking forward to another game at the weekend now and then looking forward to the start of the season."
