Gaffer Praises Squad's Fitness Ahead Of Fulham Clash

26 November 2015

Manager Simon Grayson admits his squad is looking much sharper going into the weekend, after a number of reserve games in recent weeks.

Since the start of the last international break, North End have played three reserve games, allowing those who haven't started games to get some valuable game time.

The gaffer feels it will benefit the squad as a whole, with a number of players on the fringes of the squad ready to be called upon at any time, including strike pair Will Keane and Stevie May.

"We've made a conscious effort to get three bounce games in in the last three weeks for the lads who've not played to keep them up to speed.

"It's been difficult before that because we've been playing Saturday, Tuesday and we haven't had much time to do that so maybe one or two of the lads were not quite as sharp as they should be.

"But certainly on Tuesday they all looked sharp and they've affected the game when they have come on.

"I think Stevie May would be the first to admit he is feeling a lot fitter and sharper now he's got some game time. Will Keane as well, he scored twice the other day and looked really sharp.

"We've got players in Will and Steve who've not had a lot of first team football, but they are looking very sharp and looking to push for an opportunity to get into the team.

"All of the other lads are the same, the likes of John Welsh and Neil Kilkenny, Josh Brownhill etc. have all contributed and looked like they are ready to be called upon at any time."
