Gaffer Speaks Of Value Of A Good Cup Run

22 January 2015

Manager Simon Grayson feels there are plenty of positives to a good cup run for the Club and hopes to be in the hat for the fifth round come Saturday evening.

The first hurdle for the Lilywhites is a home tie against Sheffield United in the fourth round and Grayson speaks of the benefits of a positive cup run but knows what to expect against a Blades side he has faced twice this season already.

"It's a special competition, it's a worldwide competition, I think when you hear about other competitions in different countries it doesn't come anywhere near the same sort of profile.

"When you look back over the years there have been stories for individuals for football clubs, and that's what the FA Cup can do. Small teams can go and cause an upset against a big Premiership team and that's why it's a special competition.

"It is a competition that can give you the opportunity to lift your profile, players can play against the best players in the world, at some fantastic stadiums, get extra revenue for the football club and all these ingredients bring an extra edge to it.

"Full respect to Nigel [Clough], and what he's done, a great result against Tottenham, so we know how they are going to play and what to expect and there will be the edge of Sheffield United bringing a really good following so all the ingredients are there to wet the appetite of a cup tie and with the excitement of if you can get through, you're into the fifth round and the fifth round could be anything. Obviously though we've got the hurdle of trying to get over Sheffield United first."
