Garner At Home At Deepdale

8 January 2013

New signing Joe Garner has admitted he was the most nervous he has ever been on a football pitch when facing the Lilywhites in November.

He lined up for Carlisle United against North End for their League One match on a Tuesday night and scored a penalty in front of the Town End, but he admitted to PNE.Com after completing the paperwork on an 18-month deal that it was a nerve-wracking experience.

“I’m really happy to be here. As soon as I knew the Club were interested in bringing me in, it was the only place I wanted to come.

“I used to have a season ticket here, quite a while back, and I used to come every week. A lot of my family support Preston; my little brother comes to the games and I’m happy to be here.

“I’ve played here this season with Carlisle and I am happy to be back and have signed.

“I have already scored once at Deepdale this season. My family were sat in the Town End when I took that penalty – I think it’s probably the most nervous I have ever been, seeing them sat there and taking a penalty, but I was there to do a job and did that, but now I am here and I am over the moon.”

The new No.14 goes straight into the squad for Thursday’s clash with Coventry City and is looking forward to getting going.

“The manager said he wanted me to sign here; he went through a few things about what he wanted from me and I am happy to be on board.

“I am looking to improve. The harder you work, the more you will improve and if you look at the manager’s record, it is second to none. He did an unbelievable job at Stevenage and he is now bringing his own players in here and it can only get better.

“Thursday is a big tie for the Club. If you can get to the Final of that, it is a great day out for the fans at Wembley and even for the players it is a big event. It is not very often you play at Wembley and hopefully it will be a great game and we can get the victory.”
