Grayson On Chance For Players To Shine

1 October 2015

Manager Simon Grayson knows there will be at least three changes to his squad this weekend, but feels it's a great opportunity for other players to prove themselves.

The gaffer will be without Joe Garner and Bailey Wright who picked up red cards in last weekend's game against Wolves at Deepdale, and Marnick Vermijl is unavailable to face his parent club as part of his loan deal.

Grayson believes the players that come into the squad will have a point to prove as they try and keep their shirt and create competition in the squad, something the PNE boss feels is vital to success in the Championship.

"You never get a clear week when you've got everybody available to you for different reasons. Marnick Vermijl can't play against his parent Club this weekend, then the first week after the international break Eoin Doyle can't play against Cardiff as part of his loan agreement, so it's part and parcel of the job.

"We will be without Joe for three games, but it does give other people an opportunity. We've got plenty of firepower, we are hoping that Paul Gallagher might be back available, and Paul Huntington might be back as well.

"Sometimes with people missing out it gives other people the opportunity to come in and do well.

"You want competition within the squad, especially in the Championship, it's so intense physically and mentally that you need to be able to freshen it up at times.

"It's up to us to go there and put on a professional performance and try and get something from a difficult game, but a game where we feel we can get something."
