2016 Player Of The Year Awards

1 May 2016

Greg Cunningham, Alan Browne, Paul Gallagher and Mathew Hudson all picked awards in front of over 1,000 fans at Deepdale on Sunday afternoon.

As part of the Club’s community day and Deepdale Legends match, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, the trophies were handed out whilst the biggest ever crowd braved the wet weather to witness the presentations and also help make close to £10,000 for the charity.

At half-time in the Legends game the awards were handed out with supporters’ group PSG first up to present their awards, Alan Browne taking their young player of the year and Paul Gallagher the player of the year, with a presentation also made to Club secretary Ben Rhodes in special recognition of his services during his 17 years at Deepdale.

The next award saw Mathew Hudson received the scholar of the year, whilst Bailey Wright collected the community player of the year award and PFA community champion prize.

Paul Gallagher took home his second trophy of the day, winning goal of the season for his second strike against Charlton at the Valley in October 2015, before Alan Browne also ‘doubled up’, collecting the Club’s young player of the year as well.

The final two trophies, the players’ player of the year and the 2016 Sir Tom Finney player of the year award both went to North End’s No.3 Greg Cunningham.

Speaking after collecting his awards, the humble Irishman paid tribute to his team-mates: “It is a great honour for me to collect this award. It has been a great season for me personally and for the team, so I couldn’t be happier.

“There is a fantastic group of boys here and we are all in it together. Without the boys I couldn’t have won this award. You could pick from a large number of players who could have won this award and luckily I have won and I am delighted.”

Full interviews with all the winners, plus a gallery of the award presentations, will be available on PNE.Com and PNE PlayerHD from Tuesday.
