Humph Disappointed At Draw

25 August 2013

Chris Humphrey admits he and his North End teammates are disappointed at their showing against Coventry in the 4-4 draw at Sixfields Stadium.

The winger scored his very first goal for the Club in dramatic circumstances, to put the Lilywhites ahead in stoppage time, only for the Sky Blues to respond with a last gasp equaliser.

“To be honest I think the boys are disappointed with that,” Humphrey told PNE.Com in an exclusive interview after the match.

“The way we played, at times, wasn’t ourselves, we looked tired, we didn’t look how we normally do, right in their face like we have done the last few games.”

Despite his annoyance at the full time result, ‘Humph’ was happy to have got his first goal for North End and talked us through his feelings in the seconds following his strike.

“Brillaint, awesome,” he described.

“Obviously there was a minute to go so I thought it could be, because the way the game was going not at any point did I think we’d won, but in my head I thought it could be the winning goal.

“I felt happy and it felt great, so it was nice to get the goal but a shame about the result.”

The winger was forthright in his assessment of game, admitting that Coventry had Preston on the backfoot, despite all of the homework North End had done in the lead up to the clash.

“They played some good football as well, especially their forward players were very good,” he said.

“All week in training we had been practising on how they were going to play so it wasn’t a surprise that they played like that.

“But it’s nice that we’ve got a game on Tuesday so quickly to put things right before we go to Walsall because they’re another good team who are doing very well.”

Having scored just two goals in three league matches prior to the 4-4 stalemate, the general consensus was that of surprise to see the Lilywhites score four and not come away with a victory – something Chris also found hard to take.

“The positive for us is that we’ve scored four goals and to be honest, up to now we’ve looked like scoring but haven’t scored, but today we’ve scored four,” he said.

“And that’s what’s so disappointing, for us to score four and not win the game and not see the game out. We haven’t lost but today feels like we’ve lost because I think we should have won.”
