International Round Up

12 October 2015

North End pair Alan Browne and Bailey Wright both featured for their respective countries last week.

Young midfielder Alan Browne impressed again for the Republic of Ireland U21 squad as they continued their perfect start to their UEFA U21 Championship qualifying campaign.

Ireland won the game conformably with a 3-0 win over Lithuania, with Browne wrapping up the scoring on the 77th minutes from the six-yard box.

It means Noel King's side are now top of their group, and will look to continue their fantastic start to the campaign against Italy on Tuesday.

Bailey Wright featured for Australia, who faced Jordan in a World Cup qualifier in Amman last week.

Wright started for the Socceroos, his third in a row for his country, but after consecutive wins in their previous qualifiers, they fell to a 2-0 defeat with a brace from Hamza Al Dardour.

The victory for Jordan meant they leapfrogged Australia to top the group, with the Socceroos just one point behind in second place.

They will be looking to get back on track in November against Kyrgyzstan in Canberra.

Elsewhere, Jordan Pickford teamed up with the England U21 on Thursday ahead of Tuesday evening's UEFA U21 Championship Qualifier against Kazakhstan U21 at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.

Speaking to The FA's official website ahead of the clash, Pickford was happy to be back training with the squad after a good start to the campaign back in September, and is confident ahead of Tuesday's fixture.

"It was good to get back into training and now we switch our focus to Tuesday, which will be another test and another qualifier," added the 21-year-old.

"We just need to work hard, put the preparation in to get the win and listen to the coaching staff to go from there.

"It’s a different pressure now, it’s a qualifier and they’ll come at us and want to do well.

"But if we stick to what we can do best, then we shouldn’t have a problem."
