After the low of missing out on automatic promotion, John Welsh tells PNE Player it was all worth it for what he calls, his best day in football.
And after the final whistle – Welsh struggled to sum up a day that sees Preston return back to the Championship after a four year absence.
“I don’t think it’s possible to put it into words,” told the North End midfielder who put in his usual hard-working shift in midfield.
“When you see the celebrations and the faces on the lads and the fans, it’s hard to sum it all up.
“It’s by far the best moment in my career – we always knew if we played like the way we could and took our chances we’d win.
“I’m trying to work out whether this was worth it getting beat at Colchester. Going to that low to the highest I’ve ever been – it probably is!
“It’s a great day for our fans - they back us every single game. Obviously at Colchester we were disappointed but they stuck by us so to give them what we’ve done today is brilliant.
“They’ll all enjoy it and we’ll enjoy it and have a good summer and we’ll come back again ready for the Championship.”
