Jack King expressed his delight at scoring the winner for Preston North End in their 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic but admitted the performance as a whole wasn’t terrific.
Simon Grayson deployed King in his preferred midfield position for the visit of the Latics and the former Swansea City man relished the challenge.
Speaking exclusively to PNE.Com following the match, King was clearly pleased to have got off the mark for the new season but described North End’s display as ‘inadequate’.
“It was nice to score the goal,” King said. “Playing in midfield, it’s a different role for me again.
“It’s one I’m familiar with and it’s always nice to score and to score the winner as well is even better.”
He added: “It was nice and when I found out I was playing, I have always wanted to play in midfield really, I’ve had limited opportunities.
“It wasn’t a fantastic performance, it was an inadequate one. We all know we can do better, myself included, and I’m sure we will going into Tuesday and as well on Saturday.”
The win against Lee Johnson’s side means Preston have taken eight points from their opening four league games of the new season.
The Lilywhites currently sit third in the table but King insists there is still more to come from Simon Grayson’s side, saying: “I would say it has been a solid start, we all know we can do better.
“We probably feel we should have at least another two points, maybe another four, and we weren’t great against Notts County with the late goal.
“On Tuesday it was disappointing to concede so late so make no mistake the boys are disappointed with losing those points.”
