A look at how North End’s current loan players are doing at their current clubs.
With 14 PNE players out on loan at present, there is plenty for many of those to still play for as the season races towards an exciting climax.
League One
It’s been a frustrating time for midfielder Joel Byrom since his move to Oldham Athletic.
After starting when he first went to Boundary Park, the playmaker has been struggling with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, although he made the bench in both of the Latics’ matches over the Easter period as they continue to pull away from the relegation zone by going seven matches undefeated.
Unfortunately for John Mousinho, Stevenage won’t be doing likewise, as they became the first team to be relegated from Sky Bet League One on Monday following defeat at the hands of Bristol City.
The midfielder has been featuring regularly however, the only blemish on his record coming when he had the misfortune of turning the ball in to his own net against Sheffield United to give the Blades three points.
League Two
There is better news for several of the Lilywhites’ players currently featuring in League Two, with Iain Hume, Ben Davies, Will Hayhurst, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Nicky Wroe and Graham Cummins all well in the promotion hunt.
Irishman Cummins has featured three times during April for Rochdale as they gamely try to hang on to an automatic promotion spot with Hume and Fleetwood Town bearing down on them.
The Cod Army trail Dale by three points and are in the midst of a run which has saw them lose only one of their last 12 matches, whilst the Spotland side have only a solitary win in their last five.
Hume has immediately become an important cog in the Fylde Coast side’s wheel, scoring once and winning a penalty in recent matches.
Cansdell-Sherriff’s Burton Albion currently occupy fifth place in the table, although it is going to take a monumental goal swing to give them any hope of an automatic spot.
The Aussie has been in fine fettle with the Brewers, although he did miss Monday’s trip to Rodney Parade with a minor Achilles injury.
Two players that are on fire at present are young duo Ben Davies and Will Hayhurst.
York City are on an incredible 15 game unbeaten run which has seen them rocket up the League Two table and in to seventh position; five points ahead of Nicky Wroe’s chasing Oxford United.
Hayhurst grabbed his first goal for the Minstermen against Torquay United last month and has been the provider for many more, meanwhile his former PNE Academy team-mate recently helped City to an unbelievable nine clean-sheets in ten matches.
As for Wroe’s U’s, they look set to be the ones who miss out on the Play-Offs thanks to York with only two games to go.
The wheels have come off at just the wrong time for the Kassam Stadium outfit who have only three wins to their name in 16 matches.
A plus for Wroe however is that he has been featuring regularly and getting game time under his belt.
Bristol Rovers striker Chris Beardsley faces a fight of a different kind however with the Gas clinging on to their place just outside the League Two relegation zone on goal difference only.
And unfortunately for Beardsley, he has been unable to help much as Rovers try to improve their record of only one win in their last ten matches due to a persistent knee injury, Beardo only featuring once in April so far.
Non-League
Ryan Croasdale and Jack Ryan have helped Stalybridge Celtic to Conference North safety following a 1-1 draw with Bradford Park Avenue on Monday.
The pair have featured regularly since arriving on loan at Bower Fold, with valuable first team minutes gained which will undoubtedly benefit them in the years ahead.
Celtic could be joined next season by Chorley who are one win away from the Northern Premier league title.
In recent weeks, the Magpies have been helped to their date with destiny against Buxton on Saturday by Alex Nicholson and PNE Academy full back Nick Anderton, who have settled in well to Garry Flitcroft’s promotion chasing side.
Another still learning their trade in the Northern Premier is goalkeeper Steven James who remains on loan at Nantwich Town.
The shot stopper has being playing regularly for the Dabbers who have long since secured their place in the league for 2014/15.
