Match Preview: Carlisle United v Preston North End

27 July 2015

Next up for Simon Grayson's side this pre-season is a trip to Brunton Park to face League Two side Carlisle United.

The North End boys will be travelling south for the game having spent the weekend in Scotland following the 2-1 win over Motherwell in Livingston on Friday night.

A weekend of training and team bonding is bound to have it's benefits for the squad, and the gaffer will be hoping his side can continue their unbeaten run this pre-season in Cumbria on Tuesday night.

Carlisle faced League One side Bradford City on Saturday and fell to a 2-0 defeat to the Bantams, their first defeat of pre-season following three consecutive wins against Blyth Spartans, Workington Town and Penrith.

Simon Grayson will have an idea of what to expect from the League Two outfit, having faced them twice in his first full season in charge at Deepdale prior to their relegation from League One.

The PNE boss is expected to have a full squad to choose from come Tuesday night, with a view to increasing the amount of game time for each player with many already hitting the 90 minute mark so far this pre-season.

After being rested for the Southport friendly last Tuesday, Paul Gallagher, Jermaine Beckford and Joe Garner all returned on Friday evening against Motherwell and are expected to play some part once again.

New signing Greg Cunningham is expected to play some part in the game after completing his move from Bristol City on Monday afternoon. Manager Simon Grayson has no concerns over the player's fitness and expects his to make his first appearance in a North End shirt.

“There’s a good chance we will give him [Cunningham] some game time this week. He landed from Faro on Friday and did a medical and trained on Saturday and then joined in again on Sunday and Monday with us all and now the paperwork is completed we can go full steam ahead.

“I’ve have no issues on his fitness levels and game time, because he has been doing all that with Bristol City, so we are delighted to have got him and I would expect him to be involved in some capacity against Carlisle.”

The match will kick-off at 7.15pm at Brunton Park on Tuesday 28th July, as the Lilywhties continue the countdown to the start of the Championship campaign.
