Sam Johnstone Relishing The Prospect Of North End Experience

12 January 2015

Preston North End’s latest recruit, Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, says he is looking forward to getting more vital first team matches under his belt.

The former England youth international has signed on loan at Deepdale and he can’t wait to get down to the business of playing what he calls ‘proper football’.

Speaking exclusively to PNE Player, Johnstone said: “I just want to be playing football at my age. I have said it before, I am 21 and I want to get out and play league football, the experience of the crowds, proper football.

“So whenever I have had the chance to go on loan I have always taken it because I just want to play and gain experience to be the best that I can.”

As well as following in the footsteps of his father Glenn by joining the Lilywhites, Johnstone also has the benefit of advice from Manchester United U21 coach Warren Joyce who also spent time at Deepdale during his playing days.

And the United coach was full of praise for Johnstone, something that is pleasing on the youngster’s ears.

“I know that Joycey was here a few years ago and I am happy that he is saying good things and I am glad that the Club have come in for me and wanted me to come on loan.

“I have come in this morning and all the lads are great, I have met them all.”
