Scott Laird ‘Players Have To Wait For Their Chance’

23 August 2014

After getting his first start of the 2014/15 campaign under his belt, Scott Laird spoke to PNE Player to acknowledge the strength in depth at North End this season.

Laird overseen Preston record their first competitive victory at Deepdale this campaign at the second attempt, with a 1-0 win against Oldham this afternoon.

The 26-year-old has had to be patient so far this year with Ben Davies occupying his favoured left back spot for the previous games, and Laird declared on camera the importance of players grabbing their chance when given the opportunity.

“It was good to get that start,” said Laird who spoke to PNE Player after the final whistle - “I felt I did as much as I could have done today - I worked hard in training and I’ll go back to training next week and work as hard as I can again to retain my place.

“Football can change so quickly - one minute you’re in the stands and 48 hours later you’re playing.

“We have a great back-up here – we could have two first-teams here and even with those 22 players, we’d still have players left over.

“It’s an unbelievable squad here so people have to wait their chance, and when they do get it they have to grab it with both hands.”
