PNE legend Bill Shankly is being honoured with a charity bike ride geared towards improving community programmes and people’s lives.
Taking place in the lead up to the Scots’ 100th birthday, the journey will commence in Glasgow, on 29th August, before continuing through Ayrshire, Glenbuck, Carlisle and Preston - finishing in Liverpool on 1st September.
Deepdale's Shankly Kop will be a marquee stop on the 270 mile journey as riders will pass the stand on their way through the City.
The eccentric Scot arrived in Preston exactly 80 years ago, as a fresh-faced 20-year-old, having impressed at Carlisle United in his debut professional season.
He quickly established himself in the side, having initially being placed in the reserves, before helping the Lilywhites secure promotion to Division One in 1934.
Four years later, Shankly picked up an FA Cup winners’ medal with the Club and went on to become their record appearance holder for the competition.
He eventually left Preston in 1949 and tried his hand at management, winning 11 trophies with Liverpool and transforming them into European heavyweights.

There are a limited number of places on the full 270 mile journey, while the 33 mile final leg – from Preston to Liverpool – has wider availability.
There are 150 openings on the ride and a non-refundable £199 registration fee applies, while an additional £300 will be needed to cover event costs.
Meanwhile, there are 300 spots available on the final leg, and it is just £30 to register!
