Simon Grayson Expects Cauldron Of Noise

23 April 2015

Manager Simon Grayson is hoping for a wall of noise from all four sides of Deepdale on Saturday after the Kop was opened to home supporters.

The PNE boss spoke ahead of the visit of Swindon Town for the final home league game of the 2014/15 season and admitted a huge atmosphere could make all the difference.

“We’re at a stage where our destiny is still in our own hands,” said the gaffer. “We are expecting a really big crowd at Deepdale on Saturday and everybody can’t wait for it.

“I am sure there will be a positive atmosphere in the stadium. There is no getting away from the fact that people will be nervous, buts that’s the stage at every football ground at this stage of the season, with so much riding on practically every game.

“It is great that the Club have opened the Kop to home fans and we will now have fans all around the ground, so it will be a cauldron of noise and it is a chance for supporters to really keep the players going.

“The players don’t need any extra motivation, because they know what is at stake and have been outstanding all season, but the 12th man could play a huge part on Saturday.

“We have to be as one. We are all after this dream of being promoted and it is in our hands – the supporters can affect it if they are there in their numbers, making noise, being patient when they need to and hopefully we can make it a great day.”

As has been mentioned many times, the North End chief has been promoted from League One a number of times before, so how much can his previous experiences help going into the last two games?

“You try and draw from previous experiences, but they are different teams in different seasons,” he continued. “With Snods, Alan Kelly, John Dreyer and myself, we have all experienced promotions in our careers and we will try and draw on those experiences for the players. As much information we can arm the players with, hopefully helps.

“A lot of our work now is no different to that when we started back in pre-season.

“There is a determination in the group and we know what is needed if we are to get promotion.”

The visitors themselves can still be mathematically promoted automatically and whilst the talk in Wiltshire has been about preparations for a Play-Off campaign, Simon is expecting a tough test.

“Swindon have had a fantastic season. They have some unbelievable players and play a certain style with a testimony to Mark – he has never changed from his beliefs – and it is a tough game for us.

“We are playing fourth in the table who have been up there for large parts of the season. They pass the ball and move and play with a lot of freedom about them.

“This is a game where they have more possession than us and we have to be patient, because this is what they do in every game. Sometimes they have six players in midfield and we will have to be patient and play with an intensity with and without the ball and a purpose about us.

“They will be aware of what we can do to them as well. When an opposition gets a team sheet with Garner and Beckford on it and on fire, then it is a strong position for us to be in,” he added.
