Simon Grayson Wants To Keep Building

24 September 2015

Manager Simon Grayson spoke ahead of the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers to PR1 and was keen to build on an improved display against AFC Bournemouth.

The Lilywhites twice battled back against the Premier League side to take their Capital One Cup third round tie to penalties, before eventually losing to the Cherries and the manager is keen to use that when the Black County outfit arrive at Deepdale on Saturday.

The gaffer felt that the visitors would also be looking for improvements after a steady start to the new campaign: “It’s early days yet,” he said. “Kenny has done a fantastic job there. The season before last we were both opening the gate for the season in front of 17 or 18,000 at Deepdale and they have done ever so well to get where they did last year.

“You know what you are going to get with Kenny’s teams. They are organised, disciplined and hard-working, but they have a threat going forward as well.

“In [Benik] Afobe, they have one of the best strikers around. They did ever so well to keep hold of him on deadline day when they were talking double figures in the millions terms of him going up into the Premier League, so they have done well to keep hold of him.

“We know what to expect. The table is misleading at this stage of the season. You only have to win only game to shoot up. Kenny will know what threats we have got and we want to build on the positives from Tuesday night, where we showed a good response, which is a big thing.”

The manager will go into the game with Joe Garner and Eoin Doyle both available again having missed the clash with Eddie Howe’s men due to suspension and being cup tied respectively, however, he is still set to be without Paul Gallagher and long-term absentee Jermaine Beckford.

“It has been disappointing to be without Gally and Jermaine Beckford, two of our best players from last season,” he continued. “We were excited to bring them in on permanent deals in the summer, so it was a blow to lose them both, even though Gally should be available soon.

“Gally has quality from set pieces, with fantastic delivery, an eye for a goal, can see a pass and a good understanding with Joe, so to lose him and Becks would be a blow to any team, but other players have to come to the party and bring the qualities that can help the team do well.

“You want any good players you have in your squad to be available. They are both experienced campaigners who understand what is needed in the Championship and are leaders as well and we look forward to when they are available again.”
