Simon Grayson: “We Deserved At Least A Point”

21 November 2015

Manager Simon Grasyon spoke to PNE PlayerHD after the game and felt disappointed his side didn’t take some from the derby clash.

The ten-man Lilywhites lost out to a deflected own goal and a penalty, despite Joe Garner’s first goal of the season, against his former Club and after the game the gaffer spoke to the online TV channel.

“When you look back over the course of the game, the least we deserved would have been a point,” he said. “The first half was a typical derby match where you are fighting to get the ball; a lot of tackles and balls flying around.

“We suffered the frustration of a freakish goal where the ball is ricocheting around and it went in off Jordan Pickford.

“We felt we had to up the tempo second half and suffered the disappointment of the second goal – where we had no complaints; it was a penalty.

“But then we responded really well. We had Blackburn camped in their half for most of the rest of the game. We need that bit of extra quality and guile with a cross or a pass and we didn’t have it really.

“The players had a right go, but we are disappointed at a derby defeat.”

A first goal of the season for the 2014/15 League One player of the year was a big boost to the manager and the dressing room and he felt it gave his team a real chance of getting what their play deserved.

“Garns got his first goal and you expected that to lift us and it did,” continued the PNE boss. “The place got rocking and the players were on the front foot, but we just couldn’t find a way of getting that equaliser, which we deserved.

“We felt needed to change the dynamism of the team and the players we put on contributed, because we got back into the game very quickly, but after that we crossed it when we should have run with it and vice versa and that is using your head a little bit in the heat of a derby match.”
