Simon Grayson Wins Manager Of The Month For February

6 March 2015

Preston North End manager Simon Grayson has won Sky bet League One manager of the month for February.

The Lilywhites won all five league fixtures throughout the month, collecting an impressive five clean sheets along the way.

PNE ended the month in style with a dominant 4-0 victory over Oldham Athletic, a game that took Simon Grayson's men to joint second in the league.

The month also saw two fantastic cup games from North End with a 3-1 win in the FA Cup fourth round replay against Sheffield United, before a valiant performance against Premier League giants Manchester United at Deepdale.

After a tough January, it was the best way to bounce back with the perfect month of games, winning five, scoring ten and conceding none, and the PNE boss never doubted that his players would return to form.

"I had the belief in the squad that we could get some results. There's no getting away from the fact that we didn't have a good January but that happens over the course of the season.

"We responded really well, we got the options back available and there's a lot of credit to go to the players.

"They've bounced back when one or two people were writing them off, but we stuck together and it's down to the belief that I had in the players that we would get a result and it would kick start us again and that's been exactly the case.

"It's given us a platform but we've got to keep building on it and keep improving until May."

George Burley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, praised Simon's achievements this month, saying:"Simon has got Preston back into top gear with a perfect month gaining the maximim 15 points. Scoring ten goals and conceding none was an amazing achievement."

There was further praise for the gaffer from Sky Sports' Football League pundit Don Goodman, who was impressed with North End's form over the busy period.

"Grayson's second manager of the month award this season marks a fantastic month for his Preston side.

"Putting together a run of five consecutive wins, without conceding a goal, is a fantastic achievement at any point in the season, but it is even more impressive during this fixutre-packed period."

Grayson had to fend off tough competition for the award, with Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill, Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough and Port Vale manager Rob Page all up for the accolade.

Congratulations to Simon, his backroom staff and the players on earning the award.
