Southgate On Pickford And Preston North End

26 August 2015

England U21 manager Gareth Southgate brings his young lions to Deepdale next week, and he spoke to PNE PlayerHD ahead of the match.

Southgate's side face USA in an international friendly on Thursday 3rd September, and the former England international attended our summer soccer school to make his squad announcement ahead of the game.

There are a number of well-known faces on the list to grace the Deepdale pitch next week, and one very familiar face for the North End faithful is goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who was called up to the U21 squad for the first time.

The U21s boss has been impressed with Pickford for some time, having watched his at various youth levels for his country, and feels he is ready to make the step up.

"Jordan went with our U20s last year to Toulon and he coped with that very well and I think he's started this season very well.

"I saw him play at Milton Keynes, he was very positive with dealing with balls into his box, he has a calmness about him and he's a good talker and a good character so he's in a great position to try and claim that shirt.

"He had a good spell on loan at Bradford last year and the more league football our young players can get then better and the higher the level, the bigger the challenge and he's coped with all of that really well up to now."

The full interview with Southgate can be found below.

Tickets for the game are still on sale, so why not head down to Deepdale to watch the future stars of the national team. The squad includes Liverpool pair Jordan Ibe and Joe Gomez, who have both made impressive starts to the new campaign for the Reds.

Other well-known names include Calum Chambers, Nathaniel Chalobah, James Ward-Prowse, James Wilson and Nathan Redmond.

You can watch these up and coming stars, and others, by coming down to Deepdale to support the young lions ahead of their Euro U21 Qualifying campaign.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, and £5 for U18s, over 65s and students with a valid ID.

Preston North End season ticket holders can purchase tickets at half price for this game, so there's no reason not to head down.
