Special Trip To Deepdale For Young Football Fan

29 May 2015

Jermaine Beckford managed to put the smile back on young Ted Dockray's face by presenting him with his spare Play-Off final shirt.

The incident at Wembley has been well documented, but everyone has had a happy ending, in particular Ted who received a special trip to Deepdale and a visit from star man Jermaine Beckford.

After hearing about the incident after throwing his shirt to Ted from the dugout during Sunday's Play-Off final win, Jermaine was determined to put things right and was happy to do so.

"It was a memorable thing for him to have in his grasp at the time and for that to be taken away from him must have been difficult, with all of his friends at school talking about it etc.

"I can only imagine how upset he must have been and so for me it was a no-brainer and I had to give hims something that once I’d seen and heard what had happened."

“I just thought it would be a really fitting end to a really memorable day for him.”

“It’s one of the best feelings ever to be able to do things like this. I'm in a position where I can do this and it means an awful lot, not just to Ted and the other kids, but just to myself as well." The striker continued.

“To make kids happy is one of the hardest things ever, knowing that I’ve been able to do that today is a great feeling.”

Ted visited Deepdale along with his grandfather George, and as well as receiving the shirt from Jermaine, he also got a PNE scarf, a signed programme and even got his hands on the Play-Off final trophy before a mini-tour of the stadium.

It certainly put a smile on his face and it is a day he will cherish for a long time, and the eight-year-old was grateful for everything the Club and Jermaine had done for him.

“It’s really good, I’m happy and excited,” said Ted on his visit to Deepdale.

“It’s the best way to spend half-term. I am going to get it [the shirt] framed and hang it up in my bedroom."
