Wright Frustrated By Rotherham Draw

25 February 2014

Bailey Wright admitted Preston North End’s 3-3 draw against Rotherham United was frustrating.

The Lilywhites came from two goals down to lead the Millers 3-2, thanks to strikes from Craig Davies, Paul Gallagher and the Club’s top scorer for the season Joe Garner.

But, in the dying minutes of the match, Lee Frecklington’s deflected long rage shot resulted in an unfortunate own goal by North End left back Scott Laird, meaning the Millers returned to Yorkshire with a share of the spoils.

“It’s frustrating, obviously we were pleased to get ourselves back in the game after a poor start and we could have quite easily won it,” Wright told PNE.Com in an exclusive interview after the game.

“But, unlucky for us, they scored a late equaliser which they’ve done quite a few times this year, which has got them where they are, so we’re a bit gutted but we have got to move on.”

He added: “Other than the first ten minutes I thought we played well at times, we had them on the back foot quite a lot and we could have had quite a few I think.

“It was quite an open game from our point of view, we had them on the back foot and unlucky for us, they managed to nick an equaliser late on.”

Despite the heartache of conceding in the final minute, Wright believes North End can take pride from the resilience they showed to come back from a two goal deficit.

“There’s plus points for us, obviously coming back which shows good character but then it would be nice to show a bit more character to hold on,” he explained.

“So there’s mixed emotions of the buzz of thinking you have the win to them getting the equaliser.”

Preston’s focus now switches to the visit of Walsall to Deepdale on Saturday and Wright is grateful the Lilywhites have the opportunity to get back to winning ways so soon.

“That’s the beauty of this league, the games come thick and fast and we’ll prepare ourselves for Walsall on Saturday and hope to get back to winning ways then and hopefully climb the table if we can do,” he concluded.
