Kevin Russell: Assistant Manager
Russell had an impressive playing career starting as an England youth international at Brighton before moving to his hometown club of Portsmouth. 'Rooster' found first team starts hard to come by at Fratton Park so made a career defining move to Wrexham. The striker enjoyed his time in Wales scoring at a rate of a goal every two games and this form led to a move to Leicester City.
Russell became a cult hero at Filbert Street and helped fire the Foxes to the Play-Off Final against Blackburn Rovers. Loan moves to Peterborough, Cardiff, Hereford and Stoke followed and he made a permanent move to Stoke City before further moves to Burnley, Bournemouth and Notts County.
'Rooster' finished his playing days back at Wrexham where he played a further 200 games in a seven year spell and it was during this spell that he became friends with Darren Ferguson.
When Ferguson was appointed Peterborough boss in 2007 Russell joined him at London Road and he made the move up north to be reunited with his Gaffer when Ferguson was appointed Preston boss in January 2010.
David Unsworth: First Team Coach
David joined North End in his first official coaching role in September 2009 with the brief of developing the club's first year professionals and development squad members. A former PNE U13 player, Unsworth went on to play more than 300 games for Everton, many of which were under David Moyes and Alan Irvine. Unsworth also played for West Ham, Sheffield United and Burnley and won one England cap in 1995.
Scott Taylor: Strength and Conditioning Coach
Not to be confused with the former Blackpool player of the same name, Scott's background is in rugby and personal training. He's worked with Darren Ferguson for three years at Peterborough and he will work with the Preston players on speed, endurance, power and injury prevention.
Darren Ward: Goalkeeping Coach
Former Welsh international goalkeeper Darren Ward joined Preston North End has goalkeeping coach in January 2010 shortly after Darren Ferguson took over at Deepdale. Ward worked with Ferguson at Peterborough Utd having retired from the professional game at the end of the 2008/09 season.
Ward's impressive career included long spells at both Nottinghamshire clubs, Notts County and Nottingham Forest and he finished his career at the Stadium of Light before being snapped up as a coach at Peterborough in October 2009.
Matt Jackson: Physio
Matt was appointed physio in February 2010, approximately two years after joining the club's medical department as reserve team physio. He his highly-qualified with a degree in Sports Science and Physical Education obtained from the University of Chester. He subsequently studied for a degree in physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University and has a post-graduate certificate in Manual Therapy.
A local lad, Matt grew up in Preston and attended Fulwood High School and Preston College. He represented PNE schoolboys and attended the school of excellence until he left school. After qualifying as a physiotherapist he worked at Sheffield Wednesday's academy while also being employed by the NHS.
Aaron Briggs: Video Analyst
UCLan graduate Briggs has been with PNE since the 2007/08 season, when he combined his studies with a part-time role at Deepdale analysing match action and performance data. His position turned permanent during the summer of 2008 following the successful completion of his degree.
Dean Ramsdale: Director of Youth
Prior to joining North End, Dean spent over 14 years working with Burnley's 'Football In The Community' scheme - one of the premier intiatives of its kind in the country. With continued ambition for the game, Dean is currently studying on the FA Academy Director's course.
Jamie Hoyland: Youth Team Coach
Jamie was welcomed to Preston at the same time as Dean Ramsdale having known Paul Simpson from his playing days at Manchester City. Having had a playing career spanning 17 years, Jamie moved into coaching and has worked at some of the top clubs in the North West including Rochdale where he had a spell as Assistant Manager. He passed his A Licence in 2003 and is now an integral part of PNE's backroom setup.
Nick Harrison: Assistant Director of Youth
An old compatriot of Dean and Jamie from their days at Burnley, Nick joined PNE in September 2007. His main duty at the Club is to assist in the youth development and help improve the current set-up.
Darren Finch: Youth Development Officer
Darren has spent five years coaching in the USA at two clubs and worked as Head Coach of Dayton Gems in the PDL. Prior to joining PNE, he worked at Burnley as the Regional Schools Manager and Centre of Excellence Coach. He holds two 'A' Licences, a UEFA 'A' Licence and a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and also holds the FA Academy Managers Licence. Darren also represented Blackburn Rovers at youth and reserve levels in the early 1980s.
Jim McCluskie: Chief Youth Scout
Jim spent two years as manager of non-league Rossendale United in the Unibond League Divison One between 2000 and 2002. He also represented Rochdale in his playing days in the mid 1980s.
Phil Eastwood: Technical Development Officer
Charged with improving the technical ability and skills of the Club's youngest age group players, Eastwood has professional experience having played for Burnley in his early playing days, including playing and scoring against Preston at Deepdale for the Clarets. Still heavily involved in the non-league game, Phil plays semi-professionally for Bamber Bridge having turned out for several local sides at a similar level, including a recent stint as player/manager at Rossendale United.
James Shepherd: Youth Department Video Analyst
Shepherd is responsible for all video analysis relating to the Club's youth department and is also responsible for matchday co-ordination within the Centre of Excellence.
Janet Parr: Club Secretary
Janet first joined the Club in 1994 as an administration assistant. In the 13 years since, she has occupied vaious other positions including secretary to the finance director, PA to the chief executive and assistant secretary. She took up her current position in 2002.
Brian Hickson: Kit Manager
One of the longest serving members of staff at Deepdale, Brian has fulfilled a number of roles at Deepdale before settling into the position of kit manager during the John Beck era. Formerly a motor mechanic and now overseeing the kit at the ground and at Springfields, Brian was first brought to the Club by Derek Shaw in 1989 and is North End through and through.
