Brett Ready For Scunny Test
Brett Ormerod is in buoyant mood ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Scunthorpe United after admitting that a large chunk of pressure on the squad's shoulders has been lifted following the victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
Speaking exclusively to PNE.com, the tireless forward spoke about how Saturday's team effort was a justice for all the hard work and preparation that the players had put in during the two week international break.
The game against the Lincolnshire side represents an ideal chance to put back-to-back wins together since it was last achieved with victories over Ipswich and Burnley in March earlier this year.
Having come off the bench to replace Patrick Agyemang for the final 20 minutes of the weekend clash, Brett was his usual lively self stretching the Owls weary backline with his darting, foraging runs.
PNE's energetic striker revealed: "There's always a bit of pressure getting that first win. We've all been working hard the last couple of weeks and now we can use this as a platform to kick on.
"They put us under a lot of pressure in the second half because they were obviously looking for that first win too. Games go like that sometimes and we defended very well when we needed to.
"I think everyone on the field gave everything, it was nervy towards the end but we hung on and it is a big weight lifted.
"It's early doors and sometimes you can get a bit carried away with the start, whether it be positive or negative. We know we have got a decent squad and hopefully we can start climbing the table."
Speaking ahead of the game at Scunthorpe, the nippy number 17 spoke about how the players are looking forward to the trip to Glanford Park. However, Brett acknowledges it will be a tough test against a side that last lost at home to Blackpool in December last year, 15 league matches ago.
The former Southampton forward continued: "They have a very good home record and I don't think they have been beat there for a long time. It will be another tough test, they have just come up and when teams get promoted they work hard because they feel they have something to prove. It is not going to be an easy game by any means.
"They have had a tremendous start, even getting a good result at Charlton on the opening day. To go to the Valley and get a result is a massive achievement. You will find no one in our squad taking it for granted.
"Every team is capable of beating each other in this division and we are trying to build on Saturday's win. Winning breeds confidence and confidence is a massive part of football. We are just looking at putting a run together."
