Hill Hoping To Kick On

Posted on: Wed 24 Oct 2007

Matt Hill was a welcome returnee at Sheffield United last Saturday and will now be looking to string together another run of appearances as QPR visit Deepdale on Tuesday night.

Having been left out in favour of Callum Davidson at the start of the season, the likeable left back came back into the reckoning with his first league start of the season at Cardiff last month, only for his run in the side to end two games later after picking up a hamstring strain.

Now, after returning to full fitness during the international break, he hopes that the next few weeks bring plenty of football - and the chance for his skills to shine. He chirped:

"I've been jokingly reminding the boys that the one game we've lost in the last five was that defeat at Ipswich that I missed, but in all seriousness I do think I bring something to the team in terms of being solid and getting forward as well. Long may that continue!

"Callum [Davidson] was playing at left back at the start of the season because his form merited it, but it's up to me now to prove I'm worthy of keeping that place.

"It was great for me to get back into the first team and get those three games originally - it was just such a disappointment to get that knock because I wanted to get a run in the side. I had to keep my fingers crossed to get back in so it was obviously great that the international break came when it did because it gave me that extra time to recover."

Hilly earned rave reviews for his Bramall Lane efforts, but though he was singled out for individual praise, he was keen to ensure the team received their fair share of the plaudits.

"We had them where we wanted them before the referee gave the penalty," he claimed.

"The crowd were getting on their backs and I think they were running out of ideas. The penalty was a massive turning point and it made it far more difficult for us in the last ten minutes or so.

"It was an excellent performance on Saturday. It was solid, the chances they had were mainly from long range with James Beattie living off half chances, and for a team that was supposed to be pushing for promotion after coming down from the Premiership we dealt with them ever so well.

"I think we're getting harder to beat. The lads are working and pressing hard together and we're playing well at the same time. As long as we can continue that the three points will keep coming along."

Back a confident Hilly to net his first PNE goal against QPR on Tuesday night. At 28/1 to net the first goal, now's the time to place your bets with bet365 - our official online bookmaking partner.
