Kidd Signs Up For Hyde Rematch

Posted on: Mon 05 Nov 2007

300-Club member Ryan Kidd is the latest former player to agree to a return to Deepdale. North End fans last got the chance to see Kidd in his testimonial game against Manchester City at Deepdale and the current Barnsley assistant manager is now to make a return to the Club where he spent the majority of his playing career. The game will also see another legend strut his stuff on the turf with news that Uriah Rennie will be the match referee.

In a touch of irony, Kidd find himself marking his former team-mate, Lee Cartwright, as his fellow 300-Club member will be playing for Hyde for the recreation of this classic match.

Fans are set for a real treat as players from days gone by are set to strut their stuff on the Deepdale turf once again to commemorate one of the most legendary games ever played in the English game - PNE's 26-0 FA Cup drubbing of Hyde.

It's 120 years since Preston North End demolished Hyde FC to record the highest ever winning margin in English footballing history and the two clubs are set to go head-to-head once again to raise funds for Sir Tom Finney's Alzheimer Appeal.

The game will be played on Sunday 18th November at Deepdale with a 12 noon kick-off and the list of names lining up for North End might just have their Hyde opponents fearful that they might take another drubbing.

The list of names so far confirmed to play for the Lilywhites includes: Glenn Johnstone, Lee Ashcroft, Ian Bryson, Graham Atkinson, Alex Bruce, John Thomas, David Eyres, Andy McAteer, John Smith, Eric Snookes, Liam Watson, Allan Smart, Neil Whalley and Peter Sayer. Several more North End legends are sure to be announced nearer the date but there will be a guest appearance from local MP Mark Hendrick.

The Hyde line-up will actually include a North End legend in Lee Cartwright, the 300 Club member was a stalwart of the Preston side during the 1990s and the early part of this century and he went on to make over 400 appearances for the Lilywhites. As a current Hyde player Carts has agreed to line-up in their colours alongside current Hyde manager Steve Waywell.

The National Football Museum will be holding a reception for the two teams after the match where a presentation of a specially commissioned trophy will be made to the winning teams. Fans will also get the opportunity to play on the museum's Goal-Striker, to raise funds for Sir Tom's Alzheimer Appeal.

Admission to the game is £5 for adults and £1 concessions.
