The Insider

Posted on: Tue 04 Dec 2007

It's far better to be on the inside than on the outside, particularly when it's getting cold outside. Presumably - unless you're the kind that likes to sit in the rain reading PNE.com on your laptop - you'll be reading this inside the warmth and comfort of your home or office, so prove you're a true 'Insider' by following The Insider's tips for Tuesday night's action...

When you've read them, simply head to pnebetting.co.uk and stake small money to win big thanks to our expert advice. We're too go to you.

Barnsley 13/8 Draw 9/4 Wolves 13/8
The bookies obviously don't know how to split these two, given that they've both been given the same odds for a victory. Wolves looked very good on Saturday, but Barnsley are pretty good at home, as a W6 D2 L1 record testifies. Nudge a few pennies towards the draw.
Verdict: Draw

Bristol City 11/8 Draw 23/10 Ipswich 19/10
Two top sides with genuine Play-Off aspirations. Ipswich looked the better of the two sides when we entertained both within a week at the cusp of September and October, but City recorded an excellent win at Watford on Saturday which marks them down as a side not to be under-estimated. This will be one of the sterner tests the Tractor Boys will face this season, but they should have enough quality to knuckle down and play out an entertaining tie, full of flowing football.
Verdict: Draw

Burnley Evens Draw 23/10 Leicester 11/4
Two teams with new managers that will be ultra confident going into this Turf Moor battle. However, Ian Holloway's side are currently struggling with injuries, and that could prove crucial against a Burnley side that stunned the division by winning 3-1 at Charlton over the weekend. Owen Coyle could well be the man that leads the Clarets faithful to a free season of top flight football if his early form is anything to go by.
Verdict: Home win

Cardiff 6/4 Draw 23/10 Charlton 7/4
I've just touched upon Charlton's weekend defeat, which was a surprise follow-up to the battering at home to Sheffield United. Two defeats since a confident display in victory at Deepdale? Certainly a bizarre turn of events. But then again, it's hard to predict anything in this league. Which is why I expect the Addicks to add to Cardiff's season of misery.
Verdict: Away win

Colchester 21/10 Draw 12/5 Watford 5/4
Colchester won at Hillsborough on Saturday while Watford were suffering defeat at Bristol City, but it's hard to see those results having any baring on this encounter. It's a relatively short trip for a robust Hornets outfit who won't be the kind of side to be easily intimidated by United's up-and-at-em approach.
Verdict: Away win

Norwich 13/8 Draw 9/4 Plymouth 13/8
After the heartbreak of Richard Cresswell's last minute winner at Stoke on Saturday, a lot rides upon how the Canaries recover from that body blow. Lose again tonight, and they could be in for a long hard season. New manager Paul Sturrock also knows that his side beat the Canaries 3-0 when the teams met three-and-a-half weeks ago, but says he's expecting a very different proposition tonight. There may be enough of an East Anglian reaction to secure a valuable home point.
Verdict: Draw

Preston 6/4 Draw 9/4 Hull 9/5
We always tip Preston to win so no need for any further explanation.
Verdict: Home win

QPR 6/4 Draw 9/4 Crystal Palace 9/5
The Rs will be hoping the form book goes out of the window for this London derby, because it certainly isn't indicating a home win as things stand. The bookies have opted to side with the hosts for reasons known only to themselves, but I'm tempted by those odds on Palace.
Verdict: Away win

Sheff Utd 5/6 Draw 5/2 Stoke 10/3
Two sides slowly but surely climbing the table meet at Bramall Lane - maybe red and white stripes are the answer? Having seen North End turn out against Hyde in their original red and white outfit, maybe we should adopt this change in a bid to climb the table. What's that you say - I'm barking mad? So will you be if you don't plump for the safe bet of a home win.
Verdict: Home win

Southampton Evens Draw 23/10 Sheffield Wednesday 14/5
The Saints are another improving side who'll be looking to take the points from a Sheffield Wednesday side that now looks content to sit in mid table forever. So mid table in fact, that when they see the generous odds on a draw they'll want to camp on the edge of the box and settle for the point there and then.
Verdict: Draw

West Brom 1/2 Draw 3/1 Coventry 11/2
Who'd want to be a Coventry fan at the moment? Looking dead certs for administration, a great manager talking about leaving, and now an away derby against one of the best sides in the league. The odds are heavily against them at the moment, and I can see the Baggies kicking the Sky Blues when they're down.
Verdict: Home win
