Preston Manager Alan Irvine was obviously pleased after his side ran riot in the second half to inflict pay back on their Humberside opponents for the defeat suffered last month at the KC Stadium.
Speaking to the press post-match, Irvine said: "I'm delighted obviously for everybody. It's been tough for everyone, it's been tough for the fans, the players, the staff and the board of course.
"We feel as though there has been a step forward and hopefully that continue. The feeling from the players is that this is a start more than anything else because we can't rest on that and we've still got an awful lot to do.
"My feeling was that we needed to be patient with the ball and that was the kind of message that was passed to the players at half time. We competed well, we were committed and we played at a good tempo but I didn't feel we played with the quality that was needed and we forced things a little bit.
"In the second half I felt we did a bit better. We passed the ball better and looked a little more patient and of course we scored some good goals.
"I know the importance of the game coming up. Derby matches are always very important and this makes us feel a lot better about ourselves.
Brett Ormerod was replaced by Paul Gallagher after half an hour, seemingly with a slight injury. The manager couldn't comment on the seriousness of the injury but added that losing the 31-year-old would come as a blow for him and his plans.
Irvine explained: "We don't think he has torn anything but he said it was very tight and it was getting worse. Obviously the last thing we want is for any player to go down with an injury. Sadly we had to change things but Paul Gallagher came on and played the role very well.
"If it is only a tight calf then he is fine. If it is something more than that then he could well miss the game at the weekend which would obviously be a blow for him being a former Blackpool player."
