Neal: An Absolute Pleasure

Posted on: Wed 05 Dec 2007

Speaking straight after Tuesday night's thumping win over Hull City, Lewis Neal, the scorer of the third goal, was delighted just to be on the pitch, after a lengthy spell out of the first team picture.

Neal had missed almost a month after a suspension in the Reserves and had been kicking his heels in the second string since his last appearance, as a late substitute in the 5-1 defeat of Southampton two months ago, so just to wear the kit again was a plus point for the 26-year-old.

"It was an absolute pleasure just to be on the pitch to start with," he told PNE.Com "After the season I've had so far I was delighted just to get on and then to get onto the back post and put one in was unbelievable and a great great feeling; I just hope I can see more of that now.

"I was delighted just to be named in the 16 because the team had done well on Saturday and then I got on and got on the scoresheet, so that and the three points topped the night off for me."

The Leicester-born winger grabbed his fourth goal for PNE slamming home fellow substitute Neil Mellor's clever cross from close range to kill the game off and he believes that the result is a platform for the team to build upon.

"It was a massively important result for us. The lads now feel we can use this as a platform. They were really unlucky on Saturday at Wolves. I watched in the stands and they were really unlucky in the first half where they played especially well, but they didn't take chances and you have to do that when they come along.

"We were unfortunate though and that's why the Manager felt we should keep the same side and then we've gone and got the three points tonight which is really important."

And now 'Lewie' gets his first taste of the Lancashire Hotpot that is a Preston-Blackpool derby fixture and as a veteran of the Stoke City and Port Vale rivalry, he knows what to expect from a vociferous and even hostile crowd.

"It's an absolutely massive game. It's still fairly early in the season really and people say that the game doesn't really count or matter, but it matters to us. It is the rights to boast within the area and it's going to be a fantastic atmosphere here and hopefully we can continue the performance from Tuesday and take it into Saturday.

"People have already been talking about it! Living locally, you can tell that everyone is already looking forward to it and so are the lads.

"I can imagine it to be absolutely massive. When I was at Stoke we had Stoke-Port Vale and the rivalry there was absolute hatred and so I can well imagine what it's going to be like on Saturday and we will be doing everything we can to pick up three points and move up that league."

Think Lewis could do it again on Saturday? Why not back him to score the last goal? All the latest prices and odds are available from Bet365 our official betting partner, just click here now to sign up for an account.
