Blackpool 7/5 Draw 23/10 Coventry 19/10
It could be very bleak up on the Fylde coast this weekend (we know it usually is at the best of times but we're talking about sub-zero temperatures the weekend before Christmas here). For that reason, I expect this will be more to do with whichever team is more prepared to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in on a near-frozen surface (orange ball, anyone?). Hang on, what am I saying? It's Insider policy to always bet against Blackpool.
Verdict: Away Win.
Bristol City 5/6 Draw 12/5 Barnsley 10/3
Two sides that it's fair to assume are over-achieving this season. Gary Johnson and Simon Davey are working miracles with the relatively limited resources they possess, and both will be in with a shout for the Manager of the Year award come the end of the season. This weekend, however, expect the irrepressible City to maintain their charge.
Verdict: Home Win.
Cardiff 7/5 Draw 23/10 Sheff Utd 19/10
I feel for the Blades - having to make such a long away trip so soon before Christmas. But then, saying that , we're facing one too, so it's no use worrying about their travel sickness if we may have to be taking the travel bug tablets ourselves for the long trek (being sick by the roadside when the temperature gage is working in terms of minuses is an interesting experience). Expect Cardiff to wollop them.
Verdict: Home Win
Charlton 5/6 Draw 12/5 Hull 15/4
Odds of nearly 4/1 on an away victory given Charlton's recent form is somewhat generous, but that does take into account Hull's recent 4-0 reverse at Southampton. The Addicks indifferent form can't go on forever, and promotion campaigns can effectively be won and lost based on the teams most capable of picking up as many points as possible when the games come thick and fast. With a healthy-sized squad to work with, the south east Londoners have to be considered amongst the contenders.
Verdict: Home Win
Crystal Palace 6/5 Draw 9/4 Plymouth 23/10
Two sides with new bosses, and both have fairly contrasting styles. Who would you rather back? The almost eccentric jack-in-the-box with a vendetta against referees or the cautious optimist with a fear of stoppage time? It's Warnock v Sturrock, and based on the fact that you can't even separate the two in a rhyme, they'll both be fancying their chances.
Verdict: Draw
Ipswich 10/11 Draw 12/5 Burnley 3/1
Owen Coyle was fuming at the dismissals of Chris McCann and Joey Gudjonsson last Saturday - and well he might. To try and take out Ledge and Mells like that is not on in my book, and I know a lot about books, given that I hang around in bookmakers all the time. If they're preparing to write a book about this season in a different type of book maker altogether, it will say "Burnley missed the midfield bite of McCann and the drive of Gudjonsson as a confident Town side continued their assult on the top two".
Verdict: Home win
QPR 6/5 Draw 11/5 Colchester 12/5
Apparently the geezer who has just invested big time in QPR is minted and all that, so they could be the new Fulham or Chelsea or whatever. In the meantime, like, they're still the same QPR until the old transfer window opens, so they'll have to make do with drawing against the likes of Colchester, innit?
Verdict: Draw
Scunthorpe 7/5 Draw 23/10 Norwich 19/10
We've got Scunthorpe coming up twice in the next fortnight so we could do with The Iron losing all hint of form momentarily. Norwich are a team that seem to be finding that form under Glenn Roeder, so let's take a chance on them doing us a favour and giving Scunthorpe a bit of a hiding to leave them a bit edgy by the time they come to Deepdale on Boxing Day.
Verdict: Away win
Sheff Wed 15/8 Draw 23/10 Watford 11/8
At the dawn of the new season, you'd have looked at this fixture and would probably have placed these two as 'edge of the Play-Offs' material. It hasn't quite turned out that way, with the Owls stuck down at the wrong end of the table (and one of the teams we can leapfrog with the right result tomorrow). Watford have wobbled a little of late, but they should get back to winning ways at Hillsborough.
Verdict: Away win
Southampton 10/11 Draw 12/5 PNE 3/1
We're still on a high from Burnley and just look at those odds. If you don't fancy backing PNE to win this weekend at 3/1 you never will.
Verdict: Away win
Stoke 17/10 Draw 11/5 West Brom 8/5
West Brom have gone top in scintillating fashion, and this one could be a potential cracker. Stoke are always capable of causing an upset as one of those there-or-thereabouts teams, and will give the Baggies as good a test as anyone else in the division this weekend, but expect the visiting side's quality to just about edge it.
Verdict: Away win
Wolves 6/5 Draw 12/5 Leicester 10/3 (Live on Sky, Saturday 5.20pm)
Wolves have dropped out of the top six recently, but Leicester have also struggled to really kick on under new boss Ian Holloway. This should be a decent encounter for the TV cameras, and look out for a score draw at decent odds that you can sit back and enjoy if you're not planning on joining us on the south coast.
Verdict: Draw
